The
Katrina
Krewe is an all volunteer 501C3 organization that was established by
Becky Zaheri, a stay at home mom, in November
2005 to provide relief from the trash and debris that resulted in New
Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. In a matter of months, the Krewe
mobilized over 10,000 local, national and
international volunteers to bag, and remove, over
250,000 tons of
Katrina debris from the streets of New Orleans
(testimonials).
These

represent "the blood,
sweat and
tears" of recovery!
Today, the streets are cleared
of Katrina's trash, and Katrina Krewe has discontinued clean ups,
however, we
continue to foster anti-litter awareness among
neighborhoods, schools and businesses in the New Orleans area through
our
"Keep it
Klean!" public awareness campaign.

The
"Keep it Klean" campaign includes: 1) advertising via television and
radio PSA's, billboards, rta/streetcar signage, no littering/dumping
signage, 2) serving as a
networking tool and liaison for other recovery efforts, and publicizing
those efforts to
our current pool of over 25,000
volunteers, and 3)
introducing our litter awareness program
"Kids Against Trash" to children in New Orleans schools.
Katrina Krewe has been both nationally, and internationally,
recognized, and has been featured in such media outlets as: The Ellen
Degeneres show, Brian Williams NBC Nightly
News, Fox National News, CBS's The Early Show, and in the Ladies Home
Journal (

acknowledged Katrina Krewe on Hurricane
Katrina's one year Anniversary, and he held a dinner on Katrina's 2nd
Anniversary where Katrina Krewe was represented.
